EDM: From Basement Parties To A Multi-Billion Dollar Industry
The term which the youth is going crazy about definitely needs no introduction. Electronic Dance Music has taken the whole event industry by storm. DJ Shadow, who has been in the ’scene’ for almost 3 decades stated in late 2012 that “we are living in a musical renaissance.” Well, in 2016, I cannot agree more. It’s amazing how technology and electronics are being used to produce and perform stunning music.
We’re talking a whopping $6.9 billion industry (2015).
Started out in basements, garages and purely as an underground genre in the late (ish) 80’s, EDM is now packing massive crowds at dedicated festivals and concerts. According to a report by Goldenvoice, 99,000 patrons attended Coachella per day during the six days of USA’s most popular music festival.
Social media also played it’s part in the popularity of EDM.
Electric Daisy Carnival and Coachella in the United States created the most buzz in 2014. The content from both events combined was shared more than 700,000 times and it’s hard to tell how many millions of people saw it.
On 13th January 2017, Axwell comes to India. Axwell was a member of the hugely celebrated and now defunct electronic music supergroup, Swedish House Mafia. SHM still remains responsible for tilting the present day youth towards EDM.
Don’t You Worry Child, this one will be wild!
